Hybrid Performance
The Niro comes in two forms, the first is a conventional hybrid that adds an electric motor to a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine for a total of 139 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed dual clutch transmission handles shifting very well, and front-wheel drive is standard. The second form is the plug-in hybrid which uses the same powertrain as the standard model, but with a larger battery for an increased EV range of 26 miles. The Kia Niro easily tackles uneven roads and delivers a controlled and stable ride. The conventional hybrid is rated at 53/48 mpg city/ highway, while the plug-in gets a combined 105 mpg city/highway.
Interior Highlights
The 2022 Niro interior comes in a choice of Gray or Charcoal cloth for the LX and LXS, the LXS Special Edition comes in Charcoal cloth or leather, Light Grey cloth or leather with blue accents, while the Touring Special Edition and EX Premium come in Charcoal or Light Grey SynTex material with blue accents. Standard across all trims is two-zone automatic climate control, with controls for the driver and front-seat passenger. Even though the Niro is a crossover, it still has plenty of passenger legroom and cargo space to offer. Legroom for the font seats is 19.4 cubic feet while the second row gets a whopping 54.5 cubic feet.
